CAT BREED
The earliest domestic cats in the United States are believed to have come with the early Pilgrims in the 17th century. Throughout the following centuries, these resilient and robust cats spread across the Americas, primarily serving as effective rat hunters instead of being kept as pets. However, in the early 1900s, a more refined version of the barn cat, called the Domestic Shorthair, started to develop. Through careful breeding, the Domestic was further enhanced, and by the 1960s – now referred to as the American Shorthair – it began to gain popularity at pedigree cat shows. Known for their health and sturdiness, American Shorthairs make excellent family pets and adapt well to nearly any type of household.
