DOG BREED
This large and friendly dog thrives in a family setting and enjoys life in a rural environment. While its background has been somewhat embellished, it is thought that the breed originated in 18th century France, where it was popular among the upper class. The Clumber Spaniel may have been transported to England during the French Revolution and was further refined at Clumber Park in Northumberland, the residence of the Duke of Newcastle. Robust and practical, this dog is the most powerful of all spaniel breeds. Its composed and dependable temperament made it a favored choice as a gundog, although today it is more often kept as a pet. Kind and well-mannered, the Clumber Spaniel is straightforward to train as a companion animal.
