DOG BREED
Not often seen outside the Netherlands, and relatively rare even there, over the past 200 years this breed has become much more than an all-purpose farm dog. The Dutch Shepherd Dog has been used for protection and police work, as a guide dog, and in obedience trials. Reliable and affectionate, this breed also makes a good family dog, although it does tend to be naturally wary of strangers. There are three varieties of Dutch Shepherd Dog: long-haired, short-haired, and rough-haired. The rough-haired variety needs its hair brushed by a professional dog-groomer about twice a year.
