CAT BREED
Cats have been known in Scandinavia since Viking times, kept in homes and villages as useful pest exterminators. The Norwegian Forest Cat cannot claim direct descent from these ancestors, as the breed was only fully developed in the 1970s, but its characteristics are hallmarks of cats familiar on Norwegian farms for centuries. The long double coat of this magnificent cat, a natural insulation against the northern winter, can become very thick in the colder months as the undercoat reaches full density. Not surprisingly, this means no extra winter care for owners, although shedding in spring is likely to be heavy.
