CAT BREED
Even though its name might suggest otherwise, this spotted feline is not a hybrid of a domestic cat and an ocelot—the wild cat native to South and Central America—but it certainly appears that way. The Ocicat actually originated from an unexpected breeding endeavor in 1964 that aimed to combine a Siamese cat with the ticked coat of an Abyssinian. The first spotted kitten born from this breeding was kept solely as a pet, but subsequent kittens were utilized to establish the new breed. The introduction of the American Shorthair into the Ocicat breeding program contributed to increased size and presence. Ocicats possess a very friendly disposition, enjoy companionship, and are easy to manage.
